     Thurber!

     Most of the bricks used in creating the Bankhead Highway were made and marked in Thurber, Texas.

     In 1916, Congress passed the Federal Aid Highway Act, which introduced the federal government as a source of funding to improve highways. Spearheaded by Senator Bankhead from Alabama, the idea to build a road from the East coast to the West coast was born and the resulting highway, named in honor of the Senator, passed through Northern Texas towns like Thurber.

     While the bricks brought challenges of their own when driving in the rain, they were a source of income for the town of Thurber, which saw a boom of productivity.
